About The Artist
Juan Carlos Marin is a Son Jarocho Musician and master requinto player based in York City. For the past decade, he has played requinto and sang with the nationally recognized band, Radio Jarocho, and contributed music to multiple musical projects such as Latin grammy award winning children's album Colorín Colorado. His most currently active project, Guachinangos, fuses son jarocho with cumbia, champeta and other rhythms from the musical traditions of Latin America. This project also collaborates with non-profits across the country to provide music education to intergenerational groups.
Through his music, Juan Carlos has brought the voices, stories, and traditions of the southern countryside of Veracruz to communities all across the east coast of the United States. He has performed and given workshops in multiple cities, gracing stages such as the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage in DC, The Kimmel Center, as well as playing at events like the Brooklyn Folk Festival, the Celebrate Mexico Fest in NYC, and VIA International in San Diego. After releasing his 3rd album with Radio Jarocho, who the Boston Globe named as "the most established Son Jarocho outfit on the east coast," Juan Carlos continues teaching and playing with different groups in San Diego, Boston, Philadelphia and New York.
